Free Electricity for Power Company Employees Puts Extra Burden on Public – 34.3 Million Units Provided Monthly

Electricity benefits for employees of distribution companies continue to burden the public, with 34.3 million units provided free to these employees monthly.
The increasing capacity payment charges on electricity consumers have become a critical issue, benefitting Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
According to a report from Express News, the Ministry of Energy shared in a written response to the National Assembly that IPPs received 979.29 billion rupees in capacity payments from July 2023 to June 2024.
Additionally, the circular debt in the power sector increased by 83 billion rupees during the fiscal year 2023-24.
