The practice of issuing three divorces simultaneously should be made a punishable offense, as recommended by the Council of Islamic Ideology to the government.
According to Geo, during a meeting chaired by Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi, the council approved increasing the penalty for violations of the Dowry Act from six months to one year. Furthermore, the permissible marriage expenses were raised from 2,500 rupees to the equivalent value of two tolas of gold (approximately 23 grams), and the dowry amount was also set to match the value of two tolas of gold.
The Council of Islamic Ideology also rejected a private family law bill introduced by PTI’s Barrister Ali Zafar Advocate. The bill proposed equal division of property acquired after marriage between the husband and wife in the event of divorce. The Council deemed this bill non-compliant with Islamic law.
