SSGC Imposes Unapproved Geyser Charges on Karachi Consumers, Adds Rs 2,085 to Bills

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has unilaterally imposed geyser-related charges on its consumers.
According to a report published in Roznama Jang, SSGC has started issuing additional bills amounting to Rs 2,085 under the label of ‘Conical Baffle Charges’ to consumers in Karachi.
The company has mandated the installation of Conical Baffles in geysers and awarded a contract to a firm for its implementation.
Residents of Gulistan-e-Johar have reported to Jang that they are receiving inflated bills.
SSGC has defended its position by stating that the device is essential for geysers and can result in up to 25% savings in gas consumption.
As per Jang, with the ongoing gas load-shedding during the night, the use of gas geysers has significantly declined.
Consumers have also raised concerns, questioning why they are being billed for the charges when many households do not even have geysers.”
