K-Electric Seeks ₹853 Million Fuel Adjustment Increase for August; Jamaat-e-Islami Calls for License Revocation

K-Electric has once again submitted a request for a tariff increase under the fuel adjustment mechanism.
For the month of August, K-Electric has approached NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) seeking an additional 853 million rupees, along with a request to raise electricity rates.
Among political parties, only Jamaat-e-Islami participated in NEPRA’s hearing, opposing the hike and calling for the revocation of K-Electric’s license.
A NEPRA official inquired, “If K-Electric is removed, who will take over the management?”
The Jamaat-e-Islami representative argued that K-Electric continues to generate expensive electricity and recommended the cancellation of its generation license to make power more affordable. He further claimed that the company burdens consumers with the costs of its outdated 40-year-old power plants.
