Jamaat-e-Islami Announces Nationwide Protests on September 29 to Demand Lower Electricity Prices; Sit-Ins Planned on Major Highways, Public to Decide on Bill Payments in Upcoming Referendum, with Wheel Jam Strike and Million March Set for October
Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, has unveiled the next phase of the “Haq Do Awam” movement.
He noted that 45 days have passed since the agreement with the government, during which only Punjab has received a two-month relief period.
Announcing the protests scheduled for September 29, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman stated that sit-ins will be conducted on the main highways of all district headquarters.
A nationwide referendum will be held from October 23 to 27, in which the public will be asked whether they should continue paying their electricity bills.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief also indicated plans to announce a wheel jam strike and a million march, followed by a call for a long march towards Islamabad.
