K-Electric Proposes Rs. 3.09 Electricity Rate Increase for Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami Stands Alone in Opposition

K-Electric is preparing to increase electricity prices for Karachi once again. In the NEPRA hearing, K-Electric requested a Rs. 3.09 increase under the fuel adjustment for July. During the hearing, Jamaat-e-Islami’s representative, Imran Shahid, opposed the increase, stating that K-Electric is producing the most expensive electricity. Jamaat-e-Islami rejects the July fuel adjustment increase and criticized K-Electric’s poor governance, which, they said, is being endured by the people of Karachi. They pointed out that the public is paying billions in capacity charges. MQM, PTI, and PPP did not oppose the increase. All three parties have been consistently absent from the hearings.
