Energy Minister Owais Laghari stated that a unit from an Independent Power Producer (IPP) that cost 3 rupees in 2016 now costs 285 rupees.
According to Express News, he mentioned that in the future, the government will not purchase electricity; instead, consumers will buy it directly.
The Energy Minister also stated that the electricity from K-Electric is produced at a high cost, and to equalize its tariff, the government provides a subsidy of 170 billion rupees.
The Sahiwal Power Plant, which had a unit cost of 3 rupees in 2016, now costs 285 rupees per unit. The cost of keeping the plant operational 24 hours a day includes capacity charges.
