Weeks-Long Water Shortage Grips Karachi; Residents Rely on Costly Tankers

Water supply has been disrupted for several weeks in various areas of Karachi, including Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Landhi, and the Old City Area. Residents are compelled to rely on costly private tankers to meet their water needs, adding to the financial strain already imposed by rising living costs.

According to Jang, the prolonged water shortage has led to growing frustration among citizens, who question why they are billed for water services when the supply remains inconsistent. The issues with water and sewage systems persist, leaving residents with limited options.

Karachi currently receives only half of the water it needs to meet demand. The long-delayed K-IV water project aims to address this shortfall; however, progress has been slow. The previous major water project, K-III, was completed during former city mayor Naimatullah Khan’s tenure.
