Jamaat-e-Islami Challenges Municipal Tax Collection via Electricity Bills: Sindh High Court Seeks Response from Karachi Mayor

Collection of Municipal Tax via Electricity Bills: Jamaat-e-Islami Seeks Clarification from Karachi Mayor
The Sindh High Court has issued a directive to the Mayor of Karachi to respond to a petition filed by Jamaat-e-Islami challenging the collection of municipal taxes through electricity bills.
City Council opposition leader Saifuddin requested the court to expedite the hearing. The court has instructed that a formal response be submitted within three weeks.
Saifuddin contended that the Mayor bypassed the mandatory consultative process, as required by a court order, and unilaterally entered into an agreement without involving the opposition, including Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI.
The petition calls on the court to invalidate the agreement between the Mayor and K-Electric.
