Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar to Visit Pakistan for SCO Summit in October

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will visit Pakistan on October 15 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, marking the first visit by an Indian foreign minister since 2015. Jaishankar’s participation focuses on multilateral diplomacy, though its impact on India-Pakistan relations is noteworthy.

Pakistan extended the invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but he is sending Jaishankar to represent India. The visit comes as Pakistan holds the rotating SCO chair, with discussions centered on regional cooperation in finance, economics, and security.

While hopes for bilateral talks are low, figures like former Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri suggest this could provide an opportunity for both countries to explore improving ties. Enhanced security measures, including army deployment, are in place as Islamabad prepares to host the summit on October 15 and 16.
