Veteran journalist Najam Sethi, during a television discussion regarding the Army Chief’s proposal for new provinces, expressed his strong support for the idea. He noted that two decades ago, he had advocated for the creation of 12 provinces in Pakistan, alongside the establishment of empowered local governments.
Sethi pointed out that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has historically neglected Karachi in terms of equitable resource distribution, asserting that if any administrative unit deserves provincial status, it is Karachi.
He emphasized his principled stance that the creation of new provinces is essential for the country’s progress. However, he also acknowledged that if any opposition arises to this proposal, it is likely to come from Sindh, as the PPP would not allow such a development to take place.
