IMF Approves Rs. 1 Per Unit Reduction in Pakistan’s Electricity Tariff

The IMF has approved a Rs. 1 per unit reduction in Pakistan’s electricity tariff, providing nationwide relief. The adjustment will be funded through the levy on captive power plants, easing the burden by Rs. 100 billion. Consumers using up to 500 units may see a Rs. 500 reduction in their bills. The decision follows Pakistan’s staff-level agreement with the IMF on a $1.3 billion loan.
