German aerospace engineer Rüdiger Koch has set a new world record by remaining underwater for 120 days, surpassing the previous 100-day record held by American Joseph Detori. The achievement, confirmed by Guinness World Records judge Susanna Reyes, took place in a 320-square-foot capsule submerged in Panama’s Puerto Lindo. Koch began his underwater journey on September 26 and emerged on January 24.
