State Bank Data Shows Pakistan’s Trade Loss Increase Due to High Imports and Low Exports

Pakistan’s trade deficit with nine neighboring countries has surged by 43% to reach $5.33 billion in the first half of FY25. This rise in the trade gap is mainly due to an increase in imports, particularly from China, India, and Bangladesh, while exports have remained low. Imports from China saw a significant jump of 30%, while exports to China have decreased. Despite some growth in exports to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, overall export performance has been weak. The total value of Pakistan’s exports reached $16.56 billion, reflecting a 10.5% increase, but the share of regional exports remains low.
