Lahore Tops Solar Installations, Followed by Islamabad and Karachi in 2023 NEPRA Report

Record Surge in Solar Panel Installations Amid Rising Electricity Costs: Lahore Leads, Followed by Islamabad and Karachi
Driven by escalating electricity prices, citizens nationwide have turned to solar power, leading to a significant increase in solar panel installations.
According to a NEPRA report cited by Express News, data from 2023 reveals that Lahore saw the highest adoption of solar panels and net metering systems. In the 2023 fiscal year, more than 19,000 consumers in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region opted for net metering.
Islamabad ranked second, with 14,958 net meters installed in 2023.
Karachi followed, with 4,512 net meters installed in fiscal year 2023. This number rose by nearly 50% in fiscal year 2024, reaching approximately 6,300 so far.
Across Pakistan, a total of 48,689 net meters were installed in 2023, marking a record in the transition towards solar energy.
