Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, has called for the cessation of capacity payments to the five Independent Power Producers (IPPs) operated by the Fauji Foundation. He emphasized that the improvement of Pakistan’s economy is contingent upon a reduction in electricity prices.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman further asserted that discussions regarding the five IPPs under the Fauji Foundation should be conducted with due diligence, and capacity payments must be halted. Additionally, he stated that any power plants that are able to be decommissioned should be shut down. He emphasized that if the nation is making sacrifices, it is imperative that all institutions also contribute to this effort.
Furthermore, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman demanded that, in light of the recent decline in oil prices in the international market, there should be a corresponding reduction of 20 to 25 rupees in fuel prices within Pakistan.
