Muhammad Ali, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Power, announced that electricity bills may see a 20% reduction over the next six months, with the per-unit cost potentially decreasing by 10 rupees.

During an interview with Nadeem Malik on Samaa TV, he explained that the country currently incurs a capacity payment of 19 rupees per unit, with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) receiving an annual payment of 2,100 billion rupees in this regard.

He further stated that five power plants, which are no longer essential, are in the process of being decommissioned, and a final decision on their closure is expected within the next ten days.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to reforming the power sector and emphasized that dedicated efforts are underway to achieve this objective.
