Mamnoon, Zardari and Alvi Three Karachi-Born Presidents: Leading from the Sidelines as Their City Deteriorates

Esteemed columnist Khalil Ahmad Nainitalwala highlights In his article for Jang, the neglect faced by Karachi, noting that the recent rains have severely compromised the city’s infrastructure. He emphasizes that, historically, the city has suffered from systemic injustices, with its resources divided among various interests.

Nainitalwala further underscores the irony that three former presidents—Asif Ali Zardari, Mamnoon Hussain, and Arif Alvi—are all originally from Karachi. While other provinces and the federal government have invested in developing blue and yellow trains, buses, bridges, roads, and highways, Karachi continues to grapple with significant transportation challenges. Over the past 15 years, these presidents have not advocated for the city’s progress, allowing this once-vibrant metropolis to deteriorate into a state of neglect and disrepair.
