Recently, Sheikh Hasina’s government faced a strong wave of protests against the quota system in government jobs. After the intensity of the protests decreased following a Supreme Court decision, Hasina imposed a ban on Jamaat-e-Islami.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing, Chhatra Shibir, has also been declared unlawful.
The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has condemned the government’s decision as unconstitutional.
