In Karachi, due to the severe water crisis and deteriorating sewage conditions, nine town chairmen went to the CEO of the Water Corporation’s office and met with Syed Salahuddin.
In the city council, opposition leader Saifuddin Advocate stated that currently, the people of Karachi are suffering from extreme water shortages and are being forced to drink sewage-contaminated water. He warned that if this situation continues, they will file an FIR against the Water Corporation staff.
He added that the Sindh government is taking large loans in the name of Karachi. The Water Corporation and KMC have taken a loan of 1.6 billion dollars and 67 billion rupees respectively. However, Karachi stakeholders and elected representatives are not included in the boards of these institutions. He cautioned that these large loans taken in the name of Karachi will ultimately become a burden on the public.
He demanded that the Water Corporation staff be placed under the towns’ administration.
