Sindh High Court Demands Response from Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab by August 7 on Municipal Tax Contempt Case

The Sindh High Court has issued a notice to Murtaza Wahab in a case challenging the collection of municipal taxes through electricity bills in Karachi. According to Dawn News, the court has asked Murtaza Wahab to respond by August 7 in relation to a contempt of court petition filed by Jamaat-e-Islami against the Mayor of Karachi.
During the hearing, Jamaat-e-Islami’s lawyer, Usman Farooq, argued that Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab had violated the court’s orders dated May 29, 2024. The court’s order specified that consumers using up to 300 units should be exempt from MUCT charges, but only those using up to 200 units have been granted this exemption.
