The ICU of Sindh Government Hospital in Liaquatabad, Karachi, established under the NDMA during the COVID-19 pandemic on December 27, 2020, with 22 beds, 16 ventilators, 5 monitors, and 16 BiPAP and CPAP machines, has been inactive for about 20 months due to a lack of operational capacity. According to Dr. Atiq Qureshi of Sindh Government Hospital, while the ICU is equipped with medical equipment, it has remained non-functional due to a shortage of personnel, forcing patients to be transferred to other hospitals like Jinnah Hospital or other facilities in emergencies.
