Walima and Nikah Permissible on Same Day, Even Simultaneously : Dr. Israr Ahmed

It is permissible to have the walima (wedding feast) and the nikah (marriage ceremony) on the same day. He mentioned that it is even permissible to have the walima at the exact time of the nikah. To the best of his knowledge, this practice is currently happening in Saudi Arabia, where a feast is held at the time of the nikah. Although the feast takes place at the bride’s home where the nikah is being conducted, all the expenses are borne by the groom’s family. He also mentioned that, in our tradition, the walima is held after the husband and wife have had a private meeting.
