According to Dawn News, an annual tax collection of Rs. 860 billion from electricity consumers has been disclosed.
All categories of electricity bills have an 18% sales tax imposed.
Secretary Power presented details of tax collections in electricity bills to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Energy. The Power Division Secretary stated that electricity bills contribute Rs. 860 billion annually to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) through tax collection. Electricity consumers bear the burden of these taxes, with the FBR designating the power sector as tax collection agents.
